The mission field is a difficult place. Many missionaries leave the field prematurely due to the inability to learn the
new language and to adapt to the new culture. This is a tragedy for many reasons but especially because of the
lost souls that will never hear the Gospel and be saved.

We believe that the work of missions is the most important work in the world. It is the one task that Jesus assigned
His church to accomplish while it waits for His return. Are not Christ and His work worthy of the best possible workers?

The command of Christ in Mark 16:15 to “preach the Gospel to every creature” means learning strange, new sounds.
After the Phonetics course, these sounds will not be so strange. Does it make sense to send a missionary to the field
without this skill? Christ’s command means the missionary might need to learn an unwritten language. His
language learning training will help him learn it, and the Phonemics course enables him to know exactly which
letters this new alphabet needs. What will the untrained missionary do when faced with an unwritten language
(where there are no language schools or teachers)? He will probably look for an easier place and language, leaving
these poor souls without the message of Christ. Do you think this pleases our Lord? “Every creature” includes millions
of people with no Scriptures in their languages. What does the Baptist missionary without preparation in Bible
translation principles usually do? He says, “Let the Neo-Evangelical groups take care of that task.” And then he
complains because they use the corrupt text and inferior translation methods. Does God not want Bible-believing
Baptists to translate His Word?
