What Is BBTI?
Baptist Bible Translators Institute exists to prepare missionaries for effective cross-cultural ministry. BBTI provides practical, Bible-based missionary training for men and women who are preparing to
serve the Lord in another language and culture. Our focus is not only on Bible translation but also on
the broader work of missionary life and ministry: language learning, cultural acquisition, literacy,
Bible teaching, church-planting support, and long-term field readiness.
We believe the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation, and that missionaries must be prepared to
communicate that Gospel clearly, faithfully, and appropriately across cultural and linguistic barriers.
BBTI is committed to the authority of Scripture, the local church, and the work of missions carried out
in a way that honors the Lord and strengthens the missionary’s long-term effectiveness.
BBTI does not replace the sending church. Rather, we come alongside churches and missionaries by
providing specialized training that many missionaries need before they arrive on the field.
Why Is BBTI Vital?
- Clear communication matters—The right message can be weakened by unclear language, poor
translation, or cultural misunderstanding. BBTI trains missionaries to communicate biblical truth

FAQ
Is this for all foreign missionaries?
Yes. BBTI is designed for Baptist missionaries preparing to serve in cross-cultural ministry. This
includes missionaries planning to serve in church planting, Bible teaching, evangelism, discipleship,
literacy work, Bible translation, or other field ministries where language and culture are major factors.
Missionary families, single missionaries, and those preparing for long-term foreign missions can all
benefit from the training.
Is it only for translators?
No. While Bible translation principles are an important part of our training, BBTI is not only for
missionaries planning to be full-time Bible translators.
Any missionary serving in another language and culture needs tools for language learning, cultural
understanding, clear communication, and long-term field readiness. BBTI is designed to help
missionaries become more effective in cross-cultural ministry.
When should someone attend?
We welcome missionaries to come at whatever stage they are in. Missionaries are encouraged to
pursue deputation meetings while they are here for the school year, although we request that they
do not miss classes. Our situation north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex makes BBTI a great home
base for deputation in Texas and Oklahoma.
How does this fit with Bible College?
Bible colleges and seminaries are valuable, but many do not provide specialized training for learning
unwritten languages, understanding culture, developing literacy, or handling the daily realities of
cross-cultural missions.
BBTI is not intended to replace Bible college, the local church, or a mission board. It provides focused
missionary preparation that helps fill a specific training need before the missionary reaches the field.
